Jigar 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points
Wine Enthusiast
only $14.99

A beautiful Cabernet for drinking now with fine roasts and grills. It's dry and full-bodied, with firm tannins framing spicy flavors of blackberries and plums, as well as a sweet edge of smoky oak. One of the best Dry Creek Cabernets of the vintage, at a fair price. - S.H.(12/1/2011)

Champagne

Dom Perignon 2002
The presence of the wine on the palate is immediately captivating. Paradoxically concentrated yet creamy, it is energetic and warm in the mouth, focusing on the fruit, then gradually taking on more profound bass notes. The whole holds its nose perfectly, intensively, with just a subtle, elegant hint of underlying bitterness.
Richard Geoffroy, Chef de Cave
$149.99

Taittinger Brut La Francaise
"A round, generous style, offering peach, candied lemon and honey flavors on a creamy texture. Its mousse is refined, and this turns drier on the long finish. Drink now through 2011."
91 Points
Wine Spectator
"A fine, very pure style of Champagne. Has hints of toast and citrus fruits that come together in a style that is almost the essence of Champagne. Crisp, rich and complex."

Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut 2002
Winemaker Notes
Fine tiny bubbles and a long lasting mousse are the usual footprints of the L'ERMITAGE cuvée. The mouthfeel is creamy, expresses flavors of quince and bread crust, with a clean and crisp yet long finish.

2009 Ridge Geyserville Proprietary Red Wine
*94 points*, W.A.

Special Price: $29.99

The 2009 Geyserville is a gorgeous wine. It shows expressive inner perfume, sweet black cherries, menthol and minerals. This is an understated, exceptionally elegant red endowed with considerable finesse and fabulous overall balance. A round, sensual finish makes it impossible to resist a second taste. In 2009 the blend is 74% Zinfandel, 17% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Mourvedre.

2007 Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve
***97 points***, R.P.

Special Price: $79.99

Production: 9,008 cases; Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon; The 2007 Private Reserve is composed of 34% Bancroft Ranch, 33% Steinhauer Ranch, 8% Chabot Vineyard, 8% Lampyridae, and the remainder from St. Helena Home Vineyard, Marston Ranch and Rancho del Oso fruit. A mild spring and summer with only a handful of heat spikes was followed by beautiful weather in September and October. One of the finest Private Reserves made over the last two decades, this phenomenal wine is obviously still an infant in terms of development, but it exhibits a dense purple color as well as an extraordinary nose of blackberries, white chocolate, licorice, tobacco leaf, smoky barbecue, charcoal and a burning ember-like note reminiscent of a Graves from Bordeaux. A dense, luscious, full-bodied, opulent style, with sweet tannin, this locked and loaded, intense, full throttle Private Reserve should be accessible in 5-6 years and last for 25-30.

2 Remarkable Wine Values! Don't Miss Them!

09/20/2011 07:16 PM

CAMERON HUGHES LOT 244 2009
California Field Blend

$10.99

Lot 244 is comprised of a "Field Blend" which is grapes grown together in the vineyard as opposed to being grown separately and blended after harvest. This wine combines Zinfandel/Petite Sirah/Syrah/Carignane to form a wonderfully smoky nose interwoven with blueberry, raspberry, and kirsch. The palate is deeply concentrated with silky tannins and a rich, multi-faceted juicy finish.

If you like The Prisoner 2009 Napa Valley Red, you will love Cameron Hughes Lot 244!!!
Its just as fabulous and only 1/3 the price!

Chateau Pesquie Terrasses 2008
$7.99

Made from 60-year-old Grenache and 30-year-old Syrah, one-third is aged in small barrels and the rest in foudre and tank. A remarkable bargain. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of cassis, kirsch, lavender, pepper, and spice. The sweetness of the tannins, abundant glycerin, razor sharp focus, and wonderful depth make for a wine that transcends its humble price and bucolic appellation.

Wind Down with a Nice Glass of Wine

09/13/2011 06:24 PM

Summer is winding down and the weather is starting to chill...

What better way to chill out yourself than with a great bottle of wine!

Nearly all red wines are best enjoyed at around 65 degrees - so let them chill a little as well!

(about 20 minutes in the fridge before serving will do the trick)

Rodney Strong 2009 Pinot Noir
Estate Vineyard, Russian River Valley

$16.99
91 points, W.E.

Supple in texture, with rose petal and red fruit aromas, this lively, medium bodied wine is aged entirely in small French oak barrels, which adds a subtle, toasty vanilla character and a hint of spice. Ideal for current enjoyment, this pinot noir will hold nicely over the next 2 to 4 years.

Sebastiani 2009 Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast

$13.99
90 points, W.E.

It exudes Maraschino cherries, strawberries, vanilla, sandalwood and Oriental spice. While it drinks beautifully now, it will continue to improve over the next two years.

Besllum 2008

$18.99
93 points, Robert Parker

Bright red color with lots of herbs and spice on the nose followed by fresh fruit flavors in the palate. Long and balanced leaves a long and elegant finish.

The 2008 Besllum is composed of 45% Garnacha, 45% Carinena, and 10% Syrah aged for 16 months in new French oak. Also deeply colored, it displays an alluring bouquet of wood smoke, exotic spices, incense, lavender, blueberry, and black cherry. In the glass it displays opulence, loads of sweet fruit, and outstanding volume. Give it 2-3 years to fill out and drink it from 2013 to 2023

94 & 90 Points - "SUPERB!"

08/23/2011 03:56 PM

2 Superb Wines with Ratings to Match!

Gloria Ferrer 2007 Pinot Noir Carneros
94 points, Wine Enthusiast
$18.99

The first of Gloria's 2007 Pinots to be released, and a promising allure to their future block bottlings. The wine is, in a word, superb. It has ripe raspberry, cherry and blackberry fruit, but also a wonderful earthiness of mushrooms, and the tannin-acid balance is near perfect. A gorgeous young wine to decant and enjoy now.

Montes Alpha 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon
90 points, Robert Parker
$18.99

winemaker's notes:
Aged for 12 months in French oak. Intense ruby in color with red fruits evocations of blackcurrant, chocolate and cigar box, in balance with well integrated oak. Of great complexity in the mouth, in mid palate is full bodied and balanced with a lasting persistence and a remarkable finish. Although a superb wine as it is, it may also be considered as a great wine for cellaring.
Decant at least 30 minutes, preferably one hour.

critical acclaim:
"The 2008 Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon is a glass-coating opaque purple color with aromas of wood smoke, pencil lead, scorched earth, violets, blackcurrant, and blackberry. Structured on the palate, but slightly clipped in the finish, another 2-3 years of bottle age could round it out but that is a gamble. Drink this Cabernet sooner rather than later."

Senda 66

90 points

Wine Advocate #188

$8.99

The 2008 Senda 66 spent 8 months in new French oak. Purple/black in color, it sports a fragrant nose of spice box, lavender, blueberry, and blackberry. Smooth-textured, layered, and remarkably rich on the palate for its humble price, this lengthy effort will drink nicely over the next 5-6 years.

All three Bodegas La Candelaria offerings (each 100% Tempranillo) are excellent values.

Reds
Bridlewood 2009 Red Blend 175................................................$9.99
89 points, R.P.
The 2009 Red Blend 175 (all sourced from Monterey and Santa Barbara counties) is a blend of 57% Syrah, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Zinfandel and the rest Viognier. It does not see much oak and the result is an exuberant, quasi-Rhone Ranger-styled red with a deep plum/ruby/purple color as well as abundant black currant fruit notes intermixed with hints of white chocolate, pepper and earth. It is a spicy, delicious, endearing, medium-bodied red with exuberant fruit as well as a boisterous personality. There are 19,000 cases of this sensational value that should drink well for 1-2 years.

Bridlewood 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon......................................$9.99
87-89 points, R.P.
A potential stunning bargain in Cabernet Sauvignon is Bridlewood's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles. There are 18,000 cases of this $15 a bottle Cabernet, a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and a dollop of Zinfandel. It offers copious amounts of black currant fruit intermixed with cedar, spice box notes, full body, sweet tannins and an opulent texture. This wine clearly over-delivers and from an area known for its robust alcohol levels, it came in at a mere 13% alcohol.

Duck Pond 2008 Pinot Noir......................................................$17.99

Rancho Zabaco 2009 Zinfandel.................................................$9.99

Catena 2007 Malbec..................................................................$17.99
91+ points, W.A.
The purple-colored 2007 Catena Malbec spent 12 months in 35% new French and American oak. The nose reveals balsam wood, vanilla, mocha, cassis, and black cherry. Plush on the palate, this medium-bodied Malbec has layered, spicy flavors, with a touch of tobacco and leather making an appearance. Balanced and lengthy, it will evolve for 2-3 years and offer prime drinking from 2011 to 2019.

Santa Ema 2008 Merlot.............................................................$10.99
90 points, W.A.
Cocoa/chocolate nuances; black currant and cassis, smooth texture, some elegance, lengthy.

Santa Ema 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon......................................$10.99
90 points, W.A.
The Santa Ema Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep red color. The complex aromas of prunes and cherries, typical of the variety, are very well blended to the aromas given by the 9 months of French oak barrel ageing. This wine is structured and concentrated with ripe tannins that make it very pleasant to drink.

La Crema 2009 Pinot Noir........................................................$17.99
90 points, W.A.
The 2009 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is outstanding. Its medium ruby color is followed by aromas of loamy soil intermixed with sweet black cherries, raspberries, and plums. This medium-bodied, elegant, flavorful Pinot is already endearing and should continue to drink well for 2-3 years.

Antucura 2006 Calcura Red Blend...........................................$16.99
91 points, W.A.
The eye observes an intense brilliant ruby-red color. The nose perceives aromas of mature fruit, vanilla and spices. On the pallet it has a great concentration and round tannins which give it a silky sensation. The finish is persistent and well-balanced

Cueva de las Manos 2009 Malbec..............................................$9.99
90 points, W.A.
Two winners from Argentina include the 2009 Malbec Reserve, a 100% Malbec aged 12 months in a combination of French and American oak. Copious aromas of chocolate, blueberries, blackberries, tar, and spice box jump from the glass of this inky/ruby/purple-tinged wine. Ripe, succulent, and loaded with fruit with silky tannins and a long finish, it will not make old bones, but for drinking over the next 2-3 years, this is a heck-of-a bargain.

Terra Andina 2008 Reserve Carmenere.....................................$8.99
86 points, W.A.
Attractive perfume of spice box, balsamic, herbs, blackberry; ripe, plush, no hard edges.

Palacio de Bornos 2010 Verdejo................................................$9.99
Well-made and refreshing. Perfect for summertime sipping.
Whites

Starborough 2009 Sauvignon Blanc..........................................$9.99
90 points, W.S.
Crisp and refreshing with layers of citrus and tropical fruit and hints of fresh green characters reminiscent of the region. The wine shows flavors of passion fruit, kiwi and guava over a citrus background

Bridlewood 2009 Chardonnay....................................................$9.99
87 points, R.P.
The 2009 Chardonnay Monterey (89% Chardonnay, 5% Viognier and 6% Riesling) exhibits an elegant, medium-bodied style with buttery tropical fruit notes intertwined with honeyed citrus. Crisp and zesty with moderate alcohol, it can be enjoyed over the next several years.

Riebeek 2010 Chardonnay..........................................................$7.99
The colour is a brilliant green-gold and the style is dry but fruity. The nose has exceptional tropical flavours that follow through in a pallet with a well-rounded finish of lingering citrus

Riebeek 2010 Sauvignon Blanc...................................................$7.99
Made in a definite herbaceous style, this Sauvignon Blanc also offers tropical undertones of gooseberries that add fruit to the palate.
Well-balanced with zesty acids, every glassful is fresh and crisp and perfect for warm summer days

Reverdy 2010 Sancerre............................................................$18.99
91 points, R.P.
The 2009 Sancerre La Reine Blanche is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the regions chalky soils. Gorgeous aromas of flowers, honeyed melons, orange rind, and white currants are beautifully intense, precise, and fresh. Vinified and aged in stainless steel, with no malolactic, it exhibits zesty acidity and medium to full body buttressing the intense flavors. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.

The Royal 2009 Chenin Blanc Old Vines....................................$6.99
"This wine packs a deceptive punch. And that punch tastes of apples, pears and quince, with an appealing herbal note that helps it pair well with salads and other light fare. Don't drink it too cold, or you might miss all the fruit."
- Washington Post (June 2010)
GREAT VALUE
EXCELLENT

Praia 2010 Vinho Verde.............................................................$7.99

Hughes Beaulieu 2010 Picpoul...................................................$7.99
Another perfect summertime wine!

Barnard Griffin 2009 Fume Blanc..............................................$9.99
91 points, W.E.
This could be called the signature white for Barnard Griffin, for it always delivers astonishing flavor for the modest price. A small percentage of Sémillon is in the blend, but the sappy, spicy, penetrating herbaceousness of Sauvignon Blanc is showcased, not disguised. Done in a Sancerre-like style, under 13% alcohol, this is a gorgeous food wine, but you may just want to sip on it all by itself.

750 mL
In the world of ultra-premium whiskies, Johnnie Walker Blue Label epitomizes luxury. Inspired by the golden era, this blend is made with original historical techniques; it is crafted from whiskies produced only in distilleries that operated during the reign of King George V, including several that no longer exist. The blend also features prized Islay malts from the Port Ellen distillery, founded in the 1820s, the stills of which are now silent.

WINE

Flora Springs 2007 Trilogy...................$39.99
93 points, Robert Parker

The 2007 Trilogy might be called a Napa version of St.-Emilion blended with a Margaux. A harmonious blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, it offers undeniable elegance as well as lovely black currant and black cherry notes intermixed with hints of cocoa, roasted herbs, cedar, and licorice. This textured, lush, medium to full-bodied, beautifully constructed 2007 can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years.

One of the most impressive portfolios from Flora Springs that I have tasted has emerged from their extensive vineyard holdings. Flora Springs' single vineyard offerings are all 100% Cabernet Sauvignon with somewhat limited availability production ranges from 370-400 cases of each.
Wine Advocate # 186

Jordan Cabernet 2006 Alexander............$45.99
Concentrated, lovely black fruits aromas of blackberry, blueberry and cassis. The mouthfeel is luscious and full with continued flavors of blackberry, cassis, black cherry with a suggestion of vanilla, coconut and cedar. The soft, round tannins and understated acidity of this wine complement the bright fruit characters to create a balanced Cabernet Sauvignon approachable now or worthy of cellaring for at least 10-15 years.

Plumpjack Cabernet 2007.................$85.99
95 points, Robert Parker

The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon cuvee from Plumpjack's Oakville ranch, where Nils Venge once made the famed Cabernet Sauvignons under the Villa Mt. Eden label. (The 1974s and 1978s are still going strong.) Floral notes intermixed with creme de cassis, white chocolate, plum, and licorice characteristics are followed by a wine with supple tannins, fabulous concentration, a multilayered mouthfeel, and a finish that lasts 40+ seconds. This incredible Cabernet can be drunk now or cellared for 20-25 years.

Arnold Palmer Cabernet 2007...............$12.99
winemaker's notes:
The 2007 Arnold Palmer Cabernet Sauvignon was made from select vineyards throughout California's North Coast region. The heart of this cabernet sauvignon comes from Napa Valley's Oakville appellation, with the remainder sourced from vineyards in Lake County. We blended in ten percent Sonoma County merlot to soften the tannins of the wine, and enhance its overall complexity and balance.
The 2007 Arnold Palmer Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of almonds and plump dark cherries. The flavors of the wine hint of mocha and spiced chai tea while filling the mouth with raspberry candy, dark chocolate, and espresso. The finish has elements of dark fruit, integrated with an elegant and rounded tannin structure.

Chateau Lagrange 2003..................$145.99
91 points, Robert Parker

Dense purple in color and surprisingly open-knit and velvety textured, the full-bodied, fleshy, succulently styled 2003 Lagrange is more accessible than most Northern Medocs. With low acidity, silky tannin, and loads of chocolatey black currant and cherry fruit as well as nicely integrated, toasty oak, this sensual wine should drink beautifully in 2-3 years and last for 15-18.

Elderton Command Shiraz 2004.............$99.99
98 points, Wine Advocate

The 2004 Shiraz "Command" comes from a single block of 104-year-old vines. It was aged in 100% new oak puncheons (400 liter barrels). Opaque purple-colored, this Shiraz has fabulous aromatics of smoke, melted tar, licorice, espresso, game, and blueberry compote. Layered but tight, this full-bodied wine is thick, rich, and totally hedonistic. The finish lasts for 60 seconds. However, be warned. This monumental Shiraz needs 10-15 years to fully unfold. It will provide pleasure through 2035.

Jaboulet Aine Hermitage
La Chapelle 2003...........................$149.99
95+ points, Robert Parker

The finest example of this cuvee since 1990, the 2003 Hermitage La Chapelle (50,000 bottles rather than the normal 96,000+ were produced) possesses an inky/purple color as well as a tremendous bouquet of creme de cassis, crushed flowers, truffles, and licorice. Full-bodied and powerful (15% natural alcohol) with good freshness and definition, this big, rich, dense, reassuringly great La Chapelle should be cellared for 5-8 years, and drunk over the following 20-25.

97-100 points
The 2007 Insignia (a 13,500-case blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, and 4% Petit Verdot) offers a seamless introduction to this flagship cuvee. Its inky/purple color is followed by aromas of creme de cassis, incense, crushed rocks, lead pencil shavings, cedar, and spice box. It possesses a massive, opulent mouthfeel, serious tannins, and no hard edges. This stunning effort should hit its peak in 5-8 years, and last 40 years. I would not be surprised to see it become the greatest Insignia to date and close in on a perfect score.

DRC St. Vivant 2006
$899.99
95 points
Iris, buddleia, and musky narcissus-like floral perfume; ripe purple plum and blackberry; sassafras and licorice; along with smoked meat and a hoisin-like amalgam of spices and soy all waft alluringly from the glass. The tannins here are ultra-refined and there is a vintage-typical sense of levity, despite all of the dark intrigue of enveloping black fruits, forest floor, fungal, and carnal flavors that persist on the palate. Here is an uncanny alliance of the sensual and thought-provoking such as only great red Burgundy among the world's red wines can engender, and if this wine doesn't stimulate in you cravings and wonder at once, the fault is doubtless in yourself and not the glass.

DRC Echezeaux 2006
$365.99
92 points
Cherry, red raspberry, and grenadine in the nose are alluringly entwined with bittersweet, iris-like floral perfume and tinged with flattering, oak-enhanced nutmeg and vanilla. This displays the levity and textural refinement one comes to cherish in so many of the better wines of its vintage, and the persistent sense of florality perfectly suits the lift and vivacity of an invigoratingly lingering finish. At the same time, there is marrow-like meaty richness to add depth.

Shafer Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select 2006
$299.99
97 points
The flagship wine, the 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select performed even better this year than last year. A candidate for one of the top "wines of the vintage," it reveals beautiful aromas and flavors of grilled meats and herbs intertwined with extravagant amounts of blackberry and cassis fruit, licorice, and charcoal. Extremely full-bodied, pure, deep, and layered, this is another prodigious Hillside Select that should evolve for 25-30 years.

Chateau d'Yquem 2001 Sauternes
$679.00
100 points
There are 10,000 cases of this perfect sweet white Bordeaux. The 2001 Yquem reveals a hint of green in its light gold color. While somewhat reticent aromatically, with airing, it offers up honeyed tropical fruit, orange marmalade, pineapple, sweet creme brulee, and buttered nut-like scents. In the mouth, it is full-bodied with gorgeously refreshing acidity as well as massive concentration and unctuosity. Everything is uplifted and given laser-like focus by refreshing acidity. This large-scaled, youthful Yquem appears set to take its place among the most legendary vintages of the past, and will age effortlessly for 75+ years.

Scotch

The Last Drop 1960
$2000.00
**Very Rare!**
A 12 year old blended scotch whisky was created in 1972 consisting of 70 different malt whiskies and 12 grain whiskies. The blend was then placed in three sherry cask, where it was matured for the past 36 years (highly irregular, to say the least.) The quality of the sherry casks is quite evident, as is the whisky's age. There's substantial malt content here too. These three factors, along with the wide range of malt and grain whiskies, combine to create one of the finest blended Scotch whiskies I have ever tasted. It's dark, mysterious and enormously complex, with notes of molasses, fig cake, dried fruit, tobacco, dark chocolate, old pot still rum, and polished leather, finishing with lingering cinnamon and mint. There's a total of 1,347 bottles, of which only 350 are being imported to the U.S.

The Glenlivet 1959 Cellar Collection

**Very Rare!**
Bottled as part of Glenlivet's incredibly successful 'Cellar Collection' series, this is one of only 400 bottles released.

Johnnie Walker King George V
$629.99
**Exquisite!**
Handcrafted from rare whiskies produced only in distilleries that operated during the reign of King George V, including several which no longer exist. The blend also features prized Islay malts from the Port Ellen distillery, founded in the 1820s, the stills of which are no longer operational. Packaged in crystal decanter accompanied by an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.

Rombauer Vineyards 2009 Carneros Chardonnay
$34.99

winemakers notes:
Rombauer Vineyards' 2007 Carneros Chardonnay is smooth, rich, and elegant, true to the Rombauer style. Apple, peach, and tropical fruit flavors weave together in a nice range of flavors that linger on the palate ending with a long, crisp, fruity aftertaste. The oak tones from both barrel fermentation and aging are nicely melded into the flavor and finish of the wine.

***ranked as the 3rd Most Popular Chardonnay in American restaurants according to a recent poll in Wine & Spirits magazine***

Domaine Grand Veneur 2007
Chateauneuf-du-Pape
$39.99
91 points

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape (70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre from 65-year-old vines) is an exceptionally strong effort. Aged in tank (80%) and small oak barrels (20%), it is a dense, full-bodied wine revealing an inky/purple color along with notes of graphite, blackberries, and cassis. With a sumptuous, layered, full-bodied texture, sweet, velvety tannins, and zesty freshness as well as acidity, it should drink well for 12-14 years.

As a sneak peek, the 2009 Boxer Shiraz was by far the BEST Boxer ever produced and keep in mind that previous Boxer vintages have received 95 point scores. Without a doubt, the 2009 Boxer is my BEST VALUE WINE in the world. That's right, I said the world. Nowhere I have found since an amazing wine experience for $25 a bottle. If this wine was produced from a boutique Napa winery, it would sell for $100 a bottle.

Domaine de la Mordoree Lirac la Dame Rousse 2007
92 points, Robert Parker

The outstanding 2007 Lirac La Dame Rousse, a blend of equal parts Syrah and Grenache, reveals a dense purple color as well as a gorgeous, sweet nose of creme de cassis, crushed rocks, violets, and licorice. This layered, full-bodied Lirac could easily pass for a Chateauneuf du Pape priced twice as high.

Marquis Philips 2008 Shiraz

Chateau de Campuget Rose 2009

Sherwood Estate Pinot Noir 2008
91 points, Wine Advocate

The wonderful 2008 Pinot Noir has a lovely cranberry and raspberry leaf nose with superb definition. The palate is very well crafted with fine tannins, well judged acidity allowing the joyous fruit to really express themselves: raspberry, a touch of blueberry and dark cherry. Given the price, this is exceptional value and comes highly recommended. Bravo!
Wine Advocate Issue #184
Sep 2009

Foxglove Zinfandel 2009

A classic zinfandel - true to the variety. Full bodied with loads of fruit and earth flavors. Smooth and well balanced.

Foxglove Chardonnay 2008
91 points, Robert Parker

The sensational 2008 Chardonnay Central Coast, which is fermented and aged completely in stainless steel with no malolactic fermentation, is a 30,000-cuvee of fabulous Chardonnay. Loads of tropical fruit, honeysuckle, and orange blossom notes fill the olfactory sense, as does the luscious medium-bodied texture on the palate. The wine is buttressed by crisp underlying acidity, and the result is a fresh, naked expression of Chardonnay that is top-flight.

Thorn-Clarke Milton Park Shiraz 2008
88 points, Wine Advocate

The 2008 Milton Park Shiraz was aged in American oak. Aromas of spice box, plum, anise, and blueberry lead to a sweetly-fruited, smooth-textured wine with good depth and a medium-long finish.
Wine Advocate # 186

Cave de Pomerols Picpoul de Pinet Hugues Beaulieu 2008
89 points, Wine Advocate

The latest installment of a perennial amazing value, the 2008 Coteaux du Languedoc Picpoul de Pinet H.B. from the region's Cave de Pomerols coop smells of clover, musk, peaches, and melons. Its refreshing, yet downright lush, palate suggests salt-tinged honeydew and watermelon, with invigoratingly bitter and pungent notes of melon rind, peach kernel, and mint chiming in on a long, savory, lip-smacking finish. This is ideal "refrigerator white," except for the fact that instead of putting the plastic stopper back into it, you'll want to finish the bottle!

San Elias Sauvignon Blanc 2009

The grapes for this Sauvignon Blanc are selected from vineyards in the Central Valley. Pale in color with a goosberry bouquet, apple and citrus fruits aromas, and fresh zesty flavor. Excellent aperitif or with salads, fish and poultry.
kysela.com

Bogle Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel

What makes this wine so special is that the grapes are harvested from vines that are 45-80 years old! These old vines consistently produce fruit that is concentrated with an unsurpassed quality and intensity. Pairs well with just about everything. Definitely one to give a try!

Maipe Malbec 2009

This Malbec has a deep purple color with violet tints, complex plum, fig, strawberry, spices and floral aromas; rounded and velvety tannins, excellent length with a distinguished character. Excellent when paired with game, roasted red meats, pasta or pizza.
kysela.com

Duck Pond Chardonnay 2007

The 2007 growing season yielded a smaller crop, resulting in extremely concentrated fruit, with abundant natural acidity. This Chardonnay displays aromas of ripe tropical fruit with a hint of minerals. The perfectly balanced body and silky texture is due in part to barrel fermentation in 100% new oak. The addition of a small amount of fruity Gewurztraminer really makes this wine pop! duckpondcellars.com

An Oregon favorite and great value for many years!

Marquis Philips

Our cellar's best seller under $15!!!

Jay Miller, reviewer for Wine Advocate states, " With veteran vigneron Chris Ringland now in charge of the winemaking, I can state unequivocally that this is the finest collection of Marquis Philips wines since the label was started in 2000.

Now is the time to try (if you haven't already) the Sarah's Blend and the Shiraz. Both have been awarded 91 points and are only $12.99 each.

Cheers!

Marquis Phillips Sarah's Blend 2008
91 pts
$12.99

The purple/black 2008 Sarah's Blend is composed of 63% Shiraz, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the balance Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Notes of smoke, espresso, damp earth, spice box, and assorted black fruits lead to a full-bodied, already complex, rich wine with loads of ripe fruit. The finish is long, smooth, and filled with flavor.

Napa Wine Prices Dropping!

01/21/2010 07:53 PM

As consumers are trading down and buying less expensive wines, some Napa wineries are cutting prices. Napa wines tend to be expensive, but even the ones that are now lower in price still maintain their quality. Ramey Cabernet Sauvignon is one of these wines. Regularly $49.99 this high quality and highly rated wine is now only $39.99!

Don't miss this opportunity to experience such a fantastic wine at such a low price!

Ramey 2005 Napa Cabernet

was $49.99
91 points, Robert Parker

The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as sweet, tarry, black currant, chocolate, cedar, and wood smoke-like flavors, and decent acidity. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.

One of Northern California's most successful winemakers/consultants, David Ramey's personal winery continues to go from strength to strength. Ramey has had the best of both worlds, working in Bordeaux for the Moueix family, and in California at Dominus, Chalk Hill, and Rudd Estate. Ramey has two hierarchies of Chardonnays, his generic appellations as well as his single vineyard cuvees.

2005 Columbia Crest Walter Clore Private Reserve
$25.00
90 points, Wine Advocate

Columbia Crest's flagship is the 2005 Walter Clore Private Reserve, a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, and 7% Cabernet Franc. It was aged for 26 months in new French oak. Purple-colored it exhibits an alluring bouquet of toast, coconut, chocolate, graphite, spice box, black currant, and black cherry. Medium to full-bodied, savory, and structured, this well-balanced effort will improve for another 3-5 years in the bottle and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2025.

Columbia Crest, owned by Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, has long been known for the quality of its value-priced wines. The current collection will only enhance the winery's reputation. Columbia Crest is usually thought of as a producer of value-priced wines selling for under $20. However, their upper-level, limited-production wines merit serious attention as they, too, are value-priced compared to the competition

2007 Chateau Pesquie
Cotes du Ventuoux
Cuvee des Terrasses
$10.99
91 points, Wine Advocate

The 2007 Terrasses Rouge is a custom cuvee put together for importer Eric Solomon. Made from 60-year-old Grenache and 30-year-old Syrah, one-third is aged in small barrels and the rest in foudre and tank. I'm sure discounters will offer this cuvee for around $12 a bottle, which makes it a remarkable bargain. A dense ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of cassis, kirsch, lavender, pepper, and spice. The sweetness of the tannins, abundant glycerin, razor sharp focus, and wonderful depth make for a wine that transcends its humble price and bucolic appellation.

Glenfiddich
$25.99

A fragrant malt which balances the fruitness of pear with the richness of subtle oak

Balvenie Doublewood 12yr
39.99

1.75 L

The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12 year old single malt which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. Over its period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt ~ the traditional casks soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.

Thorn-Clarke Eden Valley Chardonnay 2007
$9.99
87 points, Wine Advocate

winemakers notes
The colour is a rich vibrant green. The nose shows lifted clean, sweet fruit of apricot and peach. The palate is medium to full bodied and exhibits predominantly peach and nectarine flavours, with cloves and cardamom evident from the use of a small amount of French oak. The wine finishes full and long with a nice balance of sweet fruit and creaminess.

Castano Monastrel 2007
$6.99
90 points, Wine Advocate

Dark purple. Luscious blackberry and blueberry aromas are at once expansive and precise, with floral and spice qualities adding complexity. Juicy dark fruit flavors deliver a wallop of sweetness, with no rough edges or animal, earth or herbal character. This very fresh wine finishes with impressive cling and length. And the price is unreal.
Jay Miller

Jip Jip Rocks Chardonnay 2008
$10.99
90 points, Wine Advocate

White grapes are gently crushed before fermentation. Traditionally Jip Jip Rocks Chardonnay is a blend of 2/3 Chardonnay grapes fermented and matured in stainless steel, and 1/3 that starts fermentation in stainless steel and then goes into French and American oak to continue fermentation for about 4 weeks, and then matured for up to 5 months in new and older French and American oak. Pale Straw. A pure and complex nose, with fresh citrus characters as well as stonefruit, melon, cashews. The palate is clean and fresh with subtle oak characters. Like the nose, the palate is quite fruit derived and has great poise. This wine will age beautifully over the next 4-5 years.

Ideal throughout the meal, but particularly with poultry and other white meats, as well as mild cheeses. And perfect for drinking by the pool - no glass!

Up to 96 points! Rhone wines worth celebrating!

05/13/2009 07:35 PM

We would like to again celebrate the unbelievable vintage that is
Rhone's 2007 and return our focus to
Domaine Grand Veneur.

Robert Parker gave southern Rhone an outstanding 98 out of 100 points, marking this vintage as extraordinary!

The Jaume family has long been an important winemaking establishment in Chateauneuf du Pape, France. Over the years, their family tradition has continued with vineyards in the areas of Chateauneuf du Pape, Lirac, Cotes du Rhone Villages, and Cotes du Rhone,
as well as the creation of Grand Veneur Winery. The wines of this estate are all truly amazing, most have received high praise or awards for achieving such success in combining the aspects of terroir, grape variety, and climate.
Not to mention each vintage in this area since 2003 have been well above average if not extraordinary.

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Reserve
87 points, Robert Parker
$11.99

The 2007 Cotes du Rhone Reserve exhibits a peppery, roasted Provencal herb, meaty black cherry, and black currant-scented nose. With a lovely texture and silky tannins, it begs for consumption over the next 2-3 years.

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee les Origines
93-96 points, Robert Parker
$49.99

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines may turn out to be one of this estate's finest cuvees, although one should not overlook the 2006 Les Origines. A luxury cuvee sold at a reasonable price, the 2007 boasts a dense blue/purple color as well as a sweet perfume of blueberries, charcoal, creme de cassis, graphite, smoked meats, and herbs. Dense, full-bodied, and exceptionally pure, with a multilayered texture, moderate tannin, and a stunning finish, it will benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring, and should drink well for 20-25.

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Villages les Champauvins
91 points, Robert Parker
$14.99

An outstanding sleeper of the vintage, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone-Villages Les Champauvins is an amazingly good effort displaying a dark ruby/purple hue as well as a big, sweet bouquet of black raspberries, kirsch, pepper, garrigue, and earth. Dense, full-bodied, and ripe, it is as good as many producers- Chateauneuf du Papes. It should drink well for 7-8 years or more.

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape
90-93 points, Robert Parker

The superb 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits a deep ruby/purple color followed by notes of cassis, black raspberries, licorice, charcoal, and a hint of camphor. It possesses superb concentration, full-bodied richness, great purity and texture, and a long finish that lasts 35-40 seconds. Drink it over the next 12-15+ years.

98 points to Rhone's 2007 Vintage!!

04/25/2009 10:25 PM

Just in:
Domaine de la Mordoree
2007

2007 was a sensational year from the Rhone!
Robert Parker gave southern Rhone an outstanding 98 out of 100 points, marking this vintage as extraordinary by his standards!
The following wines are all truly amazing, but try the Cotes du Rhone for a tasting experience you will never, ever forget!

Cotes du Rhone 2007
$13.99
88 points, Robert Parker

As for the 2007 Cotes du Rhone Red, this blend of Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Carignan, and Counoise shows wonderfully earthy, meaty black cherry and black currant notes with some spring flowers. The wine has good tannins, fresh acidity ( a characteristic of this vintage), and medium-bodied, pure, fresh, vibrant flavors that last on the palate.
Wine Advocate #178, Aug 2008

Cotes du Rhone Rose 2007
$13.99
88 points, Robert Parker

Almost as good and a lot less expensive is 2007 Cotes du Rhone Rose. This is a terrific rose offering up notes of watermelon, red berry fruit, and some hints of citrus and flowers. It is fresh, medium to full-bodied, and wonderfully deep and long. Drink it over the next year.
Wine Advocate #178 Aug 2008

Pair with : cold meats and delicatessen, fowl, white meats, grilled lamb with Provence herbs, fish soup, fried fish, pastas, pizzas and all Asian dishes.

Lirac La Reine des Bois 2007
$29.99

This wine is a deep, dark red, with blueish hints. The aroma is highly fruity (dried prunes, blackberry) and intense with a grilled touch (coffee). This full bodied wine has melted and concentrated tannins with a very long, fresh finish.

Pair with : grilled meats, sauce meats, game birds, game rabbits and semi-mature cheeses.

Lirac Dame Rousse 2007
$18.99
90 points, Robert Parker

Deep red in color, with aromas of raspberry, black currant, and violet. The palate is full and rich with a long finish and nice concentration.

Pair with : red meats with sauce, grilled meats, game birds and semi-mature cheeses.

Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee de la Reine des Bois 2007
$89.99
96-97 points, Robert Parker

The purple-colored 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Reine des Bois is loaded. Although still primary and backward, it reveals an extraordinary depth of juicy blackberry and cassis fruit interwoven with notes of roasted herbs, meat juices, camphor, and a touch of licorice. The wine boasts great depth, a superb texture, and a full-bodied richness nicely framed by high yet velvety tannins and fresh acidity. The vintage’s remarkable aromatic complexity and freshness are apparent in this big, substantial, authoritative wine. It will need 3-4 years of cellaring, and should keep for 20-25 years.
Wine Advocate # 179
Oct 2008

Ideally located at the crossroads of Provence and Languedoc, the Domaine de la Mordorée produces some of the greatest vintages of the Rhone Valley :
Châteauneuf du Pape, Lirac, Tavel.
The Mediterranean area granted it a climate and beauty which are exceptionally favorable to tourism.
This outstanding environment naturally inspired the name of the Domaine.
The Mordorée is the poetic nickname used locally for the woodcock that flies over the lands during its migrations.

Opaque purple-colored, the wine coats the glass while offering up a superb bouquet of toasty oak, violets, mineral, black currant, blueberry, and black cherry. This is followed by a layered wine with gobs of ripe fruit, a plush texture, outstanding balance, and several years of aging potential (not that many buyers will be laying this down). This lengthy effort over-delivers and then some.

Hecula Monastrell 2005
$9.99

winemaker's notes:
Dense, clean and brilliant color. Magnificent fruity display (plums, fig bread combined with red fruit), medium strong balsam aromas(mentholated) which are perfectly integrated. On the palate, it is smooth and silky with mature, polished tannins and a full, pleasant finish.

Sideral Altair 2003
$19.99

The 2003 Sideral, a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 4% Syrah, and 2% Sangiovese, is purple-colored with aromas of toasty black currants, cedar, and spice box. This is followed by a smoothly textured wine with ripe red and black fruits, spicy flavors, and soft tannins. The wine is forward enough to be enjoyed now but will evolve for several years.

Sweet-fruited vibrant nose of fragrant violets, plums, cherry and musk. The palate has rich blackberry, raspberry, licorice and tar. Finishes with a creamy, vanillin oak and slightly smoky character.
Grateful Palate

The 2007 vintage is back in! Although it has not yet been rated, the 2006 was given 91 points - and the 2007 is sure to be just as good!

Thorn-Clarke, Milton Park 2007 Shiraz
90 points, Robert Parker
only $8.99

2007 was a mild growing season with very low crops resulting in wines with good color and flavor, that achieved optimum ripeness. The color is a deep red. The nose is clean and lifted, with complex characters of bitter chocolate and thyme. A lovely rich and creamy mouth feel is accompanied by soft integrated tannins. There are predominant flavors of plum, anise and raspberry, backed by spicy notes throughout the pallet. Good length of chocolate and plumb fruit characters combine well to create a long finish.
Kysela pere et fils

Thorn-Clarke, Eden Valley Terra Barossa Single Vineyard 2007 Chardonnay
91 points, Wine Spectator
only $9.99

This sneaks up on you. A pretty, open-textured wine at first, but the pear, melon and spice flavors just keep sailing on, getting deeper and longer. It has elegance and restraint, but won't shortchange on flavor. Drink now through 2012. –HS
